AUTHOR INDEPENDENCE DAY
Tomorrow is Author Independence Day.
For fifty years, I practiced law, helped people in need, argued cases, and fought for justice. Along the way, I discovered that every client and case tells a compelling story. While the law may shape outcomes, stories are even more powerful; they often change hearts.
My clients’ stories have inspired me to write fourteen books, including the Zachary Blake Legal Thriller series. And they have inspired hundreds of pro-justice essays here on And Justice For All.
Tomorrow, we will take the next step. In addition to our traditional newsletter posts on all things politics and justice, I’m excited to announce the inaugural edition of:
The “And Justice For All” Book Club.
Justice, Books & the Law
We won’t be a traditional book club, but we’ll certainly talk about books—including my own pro-justice novels and children’s books. We will also explore the legal, political, historical, and human stories behind the issues shaping our country. We’ll discuss novels, nonfiction books, court decisions, movies, podcasts, interviews, and the real-life events that inspire great storytelling.
And our first meeting couldn’t be timelier.
Following two significant recent Supreme Court immigration decisions and our recent And Justice for All commentaries on those rulings, we’ll examine immigration from different lenses—not simply through constitutional law or politics, but through literature and lived experience.
We’ll explore why I wrote the award-winning legal thriller Betrayal at the Border, hear from respected reviewers, revisit a fascinating conversation with prominent immigration attorney Tahmina Watson, view the book trailer, and, most importantly, begin what I hope will become an ongoing conversation about justice for all.
This will not be my Book Club. I will be yours. Hopefully, you’ll post comments often. Recommend books, suggest topics, nominate authors and guests, share your family’s stories, and respectfully challenge me when you disagree. The best discussions happen when thoughtful people don’t reach the same conclusions.
The mission of this club?
To build a community of readers who believe that books, ideas, and respectful dialogue still matter and that simple justice still matters in America.
I hope you’ll join me tomorrow for our Founding Issue. If you like what you see, please “phone a friend.” Download and forward tomorrow’s Book Club post to someone who loves books, justice, history, or thoughtful conversation. Recommend books, authors, articles, magazines, websites, newsletters, podcasts, films, or television shows. And if you have ideas on making the Club better, please share those with the rest of us. I want it to be the best it can be.
Movements don’t begin with thousands of people.
They begin with one conversation.
Hopefully, you’ll be part of ours.
See you tomorrow.
